MAKE UP BASICS
I had a soror ask me to give her some basic makeup tips so I figured I would blog about it
Here are a few things I suggest that you get to start off your makeup kit, no need to spend a lot of money unless you know you are going to wear makeup on the regular.
Foundation: It is to smooth out your skin and give you a finished look. For many years I only wore pressed powder, as I got a little older I switched it up to mineral powder. Foundation is very much trial and error, I don’t care what ethnic background you are…. Some people are hard to match… and I am one of them… I am currently using Bare Minerals. But there are some drug store brands which are good Cover Girl, Revlon, Maybelline, etc… For first time users I suggest you try them out because the investment is minimal. Or you could go to department store but you will pay more or with Mary Kay or Avon. But you want to get a good foundation, think of it as your base to protect your face from the elements. You want the color of the foundation to blend in with your jaw line it should not be seen and it should not look like a mask. If you look casket sharp….thats not your color
The Eyes: Most people this is where the drama is.
You want to get a good base, it will help your shadow not to crease and last longer on your eyes, check out Two Faced Shadow Insurance $18 @ Sehpora.
A little goes a long way with the base.
Next you want to get a couple of shadow quads or doubles, that way you can try out more than one color at once. Check out Cover Girl, Maybelline, Revlon, etc for shadow quads or duos, pick up 2 that you like so you can play with the colors.
Pick up a brown and black eyeliner and a good mascara. I love Maybelline’s Great Lash, the pink bottle with the green top…great mascara and not hard on the pockets.
Lips: Just like with your eyes you need a good base to start with good base, something to soften the lips and help the liner glide on, MAC makes a great lip treatment, as does Mary Kay. Its a matter of personal preference. I am the queen of lip gloss and liner…I do not wear much lipstick any more. Miliani has some good glosses that almost give you the look of MAC.
Brushes: I do not suggest investing in expensive brushes just starting out, there is a brand at CVS that makes some nice brushes Essence Of Beauty they are sturdy and work pretty well they do not shed a lot. Also check out Coastal Scents they have brush sets that are reasonable, Target for the Sonia Kashuk brand, and EFL studio line, makes some great brushes. You dont have to spend a lot of money if you do not want to.
I will be posting up a video about these tips and some makeup looks…so check back…
