Ball’n Update!!!!

MISR TEMPLE AND COURT BALL WEEKEND!!!!

As one of my girlfriends says I am always going to a ball….lol it seems that way but not really lol.  This is my latest creation made of white crepe back satin, for the bodice I used the satin side and for the skirt I used the crepe side.   And of course it has a train…yall already know I love a train…Because of a fabric snafu the train is slightly to the left side *dont ask lol*

I used two patterns for this look, for the skirt Vogue Pattern by Badgely Mischka V2134 This Pattern is out of print but I have had it for years…. I did not have the time it required to make the bodice

For the Bodice I used Butterick B4225 View A and this one is also out of Print the two patterns I planned on using i could not find the one pattern for the skirt so i will go back to the drawing board on that one.  I will often mix and match patterns from the same manufacture, so McCalls, Vogue and Butterick are all made by McCalls, I will mix and match them to get what I want.

The dress was fairly simple to make, I cut the skirt slightly larger, because Vogue patterns run small.

I want to add some beading to it before the next ball I wear it to.  The cape that I have on I made a few years ago and it was a great match with the dress.

Here are a few more shots….

Divas…Let me know how you like it….

DAUGHTERS OF ISIS BALL

Many of you all know I am a member of the Daughters of Isis.  And I go to a few balls….not as many as I could but I attend my fair share…..Any who…I have another ball next weekend July 31st.  And of course it is the age old dilemma what am i going to wear?!

I started making my own whites because we can only buy so many dresses from David’s Bridal….not that there is any thing wrong with DB but I dont want to look like the next woman so I make my own….

As I found out in June that my white dress I made a few years ago that was a bit too small when I made it is now too big *sigh* So I need to whip up another outfit and quick…I have a bolt of crepe back satin at home so what ever I make will be out of that material….. so here are a few of my options of what i am thinking of….

This is Butterick Pattern 5419  I have shown this one before, I like the plain tank top which I can embellish with some lace on the bottom I would pair it with this skirt that I have had my eye on for a few years….This is Vogue Pattern V2810 I LOVE LOVE LOVE this skirt I have wanted to make it for years but didnt want the corset top to go with it..I think the Butterick top above would go nicely with this. *I love trains if you could not tell*

OOOOORRRRR I have this pattern at home also but it would take a bit of altering because i am not feeling the little straps on it i want something like a tank strap…..This is Vogue Pattern V2065 I love this dress but I want a bigger strap…it has an over top that goes with it but I do not have time to make that….I might use the bodice from another dress to make that….hummmmmm I have to see….so my Curvy Girls…what do you think?

BALL’N

I NEED A FORMAL GOWN!!!!!

I attend a lot of balls being in the Order of the Eastern Star *click for more information*  I am going to a ball on June 4th and I need a gown.

The gown pictured above is from Sidney’s Closet…. great site that has plus size prom dresses, formal gowns, and wedding dresses and you can custom order from them.  The Dress above is $329.00, but I have no time to order from them, nor do I feel like hitting Macy’s or Nordy’s looking for a dress…. So I am going to do what I do….Make a dress….

I am going to make a formal maxi dress, I Heart Maxi dresses….

Here are the patterns I am thinking about:

This Last one is Butterick 5419

I am leaning towards the Simplicity 2580 view D dress, with a sequins bodice and a satin skirt.

Here is the sequins I think I am going to get or something in this style:   I would pair it with a wine colored satin or black satin

This fabric is from Vogue Fabrics in Chicago it is $25.00 a yard

So my Fashion Divas tell me what you think of my idea so far….I am going shopping this weekend for fabrics…Wish me luck…

Confessions of a Non-Nappy Head

December 21st, 2009

Any one who has known me a while knows my issues with my hair….I dont have what i call “regular” black folks hair.

My hair will not afro like Angela Davis *loved her fro in the 70′s*

In the ’90s braids became uber popular again, but not only corn rows but individuals and micros, it was the start of the natural hair movement, or at least the first time i became aware of it.

Let me give you a little back ground on me, i am a black woman, that is how i see my self, not a biracial, not multi-racial, but black.  Now my hair tells a bit of a different story, my family DNA is comprised of several different ethic back grounds, from Native American, European, Asian, and of course Africa.  My hair and my features tell a tale of a girl/woman who aint all black.

Growning up i was told i have “Good Hair” i often wondered why it was called that.  I though every one had hair like me.  Almost every one in my family had hair like mine.  My hair is very soft, very thin, and wavy/curly.  I have hair like my Dad, his mom and sister.  My mom’s hair is a bit thicker than mine but still not a nap any where to be seen.

When i was 14 i got my first relaxer, it was great, it was wonderful my hair would stay straight all the time even when i would sweat.  Now i didnt need a touch up but once every 6 months.

At 18 i started to color my hair, i started out with Posner rinse, it was a purple color, though out college i would experiment with color, while still getting relaxers.  I went lighter and lighter on my hair color until i found a orangish-red color that i adore by Textures &Tones called Flaming Desire.

Relaxing and coloring were taking a tole on my hair.  I had to make a choice.  So the color won out, i have not relaxed my hair since 1999.  I miss my relaxer.  I did not do it for the nappy haired movement, i feel left out of the nappy haired movement.  I have visited a few of these natural hair site, and to my dismay there are very few people with hair like mine on there.  I wonder if they feel like i feel… Your not really black or not black enough if your hair is not nappy.

The Nappy-Nazi as i call them, kill me.  They want to push their point of view on every one.  The want to shout from the roof tops the evils of the creamy crack, and bash any one who dares to appose that point of view.

While i think it is wonderful that many women of color have embraced their natural texture and kinks and curls.  I feel there is a large segment of women of color who are in hair limbo like me.

It is hard for me to find hair care products for my hair that wont dry it out *stuff made for Europeans* or that has so much oil in it, it will weight my hair down leaving it limp *stuff made for black folks*

I have found a few products made by multi-racial people that works for me for the time being, like Blended Beauty

Currently my hair is growing out of a bad hair cut, so i have been sporting wigs lol.  Here are a few pictures of my hair, i will post more when i get home.

2009….GOING, GOING, GONE!!!!

December 16th, 2009

I can believe it is the 16th of December, this year has flown by but not really in a good way.

Let me first say I am truely Blessed, I have had a rocky year and I am still here, but it was really rocky, and I can not say that i am sad to see 2009 close out.

It is the end of the first decade of the new century, we have seen some wild ass changes this past 10 years.  Who knew that i would end up in Maryland living.

Who knew that the little known Senator with the name no body could say his name would be the first Black President of the United States would be elected in 2008

Who knew i would be doing sewing as a side gig and makeup…who knew….

*side note i just LOVE JILL SCOTT!!!!*

Yes in 2009 i decided to open up my own sewing biz and specialize in plus sized white clothes for curvy women.  Doing my first fashion show this fall made me realize i need to do the makeup for my clothes so they can look how i want them to…so i decided to do make up too.  I got back into makeup inspired from YouTube *so addicted*

But i have had other issues from work to personal that have kind of kicked the wind out of my Sails sometimes

2009 has been a year of suprises for me, and i am ready to see her go.  I know 2010 will have bigger and better things in store for me.

Look for changes to Sew Sew Cute Creations in the upcoming year, we have expanded to designing clothes and to doing make-up.  There will be some changes to the blog

So stay tuned, have a great HOLIDAY!!!!!! AND BE BLESSED

see you in 2010 where we are getting it in…
