Just Clowning Around!!!!!

Many of you all know that I am a clown for the Daughters of Isis, but I also make my own costumes to clown in.  The one above is one of the costumes  I made for session back in August 2011, and I also wore it for Halloween.

Well I also make costumes for Potentates…. Yes i make them for the fella’s in the east for their entrance during the ball. 

I made this Sultan inspired costume for Donavan Potentate of Medina #19 in NYC. It is made with Blue Satin, White Crepe back Satin and Gold Lame for the sash. Yes Donavan is also a member of Phi Beta Sigma *hence the blue and white*

Several patterns were used to get the desired effect.

MAXI TIME AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!

So I admit I am a bit obsessed with Maxi dresses and I have a convention coming up so I liked this dress so much I made it again.  Simplicity 2580 size 22

This Time I made it out of a stretch satin charmuse.  I do recommend if you use stretch satin charmuse for a pattern that is for Knit fabric you need to add some additional inches so it wont fit like a glove…. lol I did not do that on mine but I wanted a snugger fit than my original creation… whew i got it lol

I Love this Dress style don’t be surprised if you see me making this dress again lol maybe haha…

But here is a pic of the full length shot… I had to but the body magic on for it to fit right….. i will be sporting this to somebody’s party in Ohio….

The Jacket

As many of you know I am an Independent Beauty Consultant with Mary Kay.  Well we have weekly meetings we are supposed to attend…. Well my Director has a uniform we have to wear, which you know I hate…One of the rules is we have to wear a jacket… I hate jackets in the summer especially hotter than the face of the sun Black…. So either i was not going to go to the meetings which i have not been or make a jacket because wearing the jackets i have now are out of the question i would melt and get grumpy and yall dont want me to be grumpy

SSSSOOOOOOO I made a jacket… I got some black linen on sale during Memorial Day weekend and this Simplicity Pattern 2372, I made it in size 22 to make sure the arms fit….

Overall this pattern was pretty simple to follow, of course I really did not follow the instructions…. the only thing i forgot is when working with woven fabrics they UNRAVEL like the dickens whew lawd…. To combat the unraveling I double hemmed the bottom of the jacket and the sleeves, and use the pinking sheers for the inside seams and any unfinished edges to keep it from unraveling.

It took me about 3 hours to sew this jacket, i cut it out about a week ago… Any who it is a cute jacket and very lightweight just like Linen does it wrinkles….

here is the front of the finished Jacket, of course it would not be me with out some bling…. so i have a rhinestone clasp instead of a button for the top closure

The back of the jacket called for an inverted pleat which i was not really feeling so I did a pleat in the back

Please excuse the dog fur that loves my jacket lol….

On a Roll!!!!!!!!!

I am on a roll….

So I finished dress #2 today…

This is a Vogue DKNY pattern #1012 I have had this pattern about 2 years.  The fabric is a poly satin charmus chocolate brown with pink polka dots

I got the fabric last year from fabric.com, their daily sales get me caught up sometimes.

This pattern is so quick and easy to make, this is the 2nd time I have made this dress.  With the fullness of the dress I did not have to size up like I usually do with Vogue. I made this dress in one day also.

The pattern has 2 pockets I only added one… it is a great little cocktail dress, I cant wait to wear it.

Now if you want to sew with charmus you will have to use pinking sheers because this stuff unravels like crazy or double seam….

MAXI DRESS……..ADDICTION

“RAISES HAND* HELLO MY NAME IS THE DIVA V AND I AM ADDICTED TO MAXI DRESSES

Hi, Diva V……

*hangs head in shame* Yes Yes Yes I fully admit my addiction to the Maxi Dress….

It is one of  THE best summer items I own… Even though I do not have many YET,  i wear the hell out of the ones I do own…

And this trend does not seem to be leaving this summer which is fine with me… they even have maxi skirts…. I have yet to try this trend

I am more of a dress kind of gal….

Any who it was record setting hot today, My Birthday, my plan was to go to the movies since mista man had to work today, but with it being ssssooooo hot *101*

I figured I would stay in and sew… I have some patterns and fabric picked out so here is my first creation of the summer….

This is Simplicity #2580, I bought this pattern last year, the fabric is a poly jersey, with black, white, blue, purple and pink, the fabric was purchased @ fabric.com a few years ago.  I have been trying to figure out what I was going to make with this fabric… I am so glad I waited and made this dress.  I made view D

This dress was pretty simple to make although the instructions are as clear as mud…. and the elastic I did not do right but oh well i fixed it by taking in the sides of the dress so it will stay up in the back.

View D is the one with the halter that ties in the back the crosses in the front of the bodice.  Now this can be worn with or with out a bra… and the bodice is self lined.  I cut this out and made in one day… and i will make this one again i like it that much.

IT’S MAH BIRFDAY!!!!

*unts, unts, unts*  Thats right its that time again… The Diva V’s Birthday, the Lord has Blessed me to see another year.  While I did not think last year that I would be unemployed this Birthday but oh well…. I enjoyed it doing pretty much NOTHING lol

Mista had to work and it was hotter than the face of the sun so I stayed in and enjoyed the AC…. but I did do some sewing and got inspired… so check out the next post to see what i made….

Clown Unit

The Mecca Court #2 Daughters of Isis have a Clown Unit!!!!!!!  If you want more information on the Daughters of Isis or the AEAONMS please click the names.  More on the Shriner/Daughter clown units.

Well I made my own clown wardrobe and made up my face…..Clown Name Princess Pinkie…colors pinks and purples.  We have to be covered and show no skin…so i have made my wardrobe out of cotton. Here is a pic of me in our first event on July 4th.  

I used two patterns one for the pants, and the second pattern for the apron and collar, the shirt I bought i ran out of time.

I used the pants from this pattern, i think  I am going to use the under dress for this pattern also.

I used the collar and apron from this pattern.  I did not want a onesie, because I go to the bathroom too much *yes TMI* but it would be a recipe for trouble.

I have to work on my clown face before session but i am so excited at being a clown…I will take pictures of the wardrobe and post them.
